unChristian
The Sundays of August 24-September 14 the morning sermons will focus on some "image problems" facing Christianity.  There is a widening gulf between how Christians "think" those outside the church view and how Christianity is viewed by a new generation.  Some immediately respond, "the 'world' hated Jesus."  Such a view may be reassuring, and to a certain extent correct, but there are, sadly, some other reasons contributing to the development of this negative view of Christianity.

Jesus was a friend of "sinners" and was attacked by the religious establishment of his day for his assocations with them.  He never compromised the truth, never winked at sin, never conformed to the world.  His example, his actions, were always "Christian" and never "unchristian."  As a people of faith, called to be a church "helping people find Jesus" we must take note of the guidance provided in God's Word for living and interacting with others.  This study is a reminder of the need to live in way that is distinctly "Christian" and provides a needed counter-balance to "unchristian" actions and attitudes which are viewed too often by those who do not know Christ.

Aug 24, Perception is Reality (Judgmental)
Aug 31, Blinded by the Light (Too Political and Anti-gay)
Sept  7,  Heart Matters (Hypocritical and Insincere)
Sept 14, All Will Know (Sheltered and New Perceptions)

Adopt-a-Student

Many members of the Grand Central Church are taking the opportunity this year to "adopt-a-student" (primarily students from Ohio Valley University).  Thsoe who adopt a student agree to make contact with them at least once-a-week, share a meal and/or family time at least once-a-month, and be available to help (sometimes students even come to do their laundry).  Its a win-win with students gaining a new "family" and the GC members being able to share some of these exciting times with the students.

If you'd like to be a part of this ministry, whether as a GC member "host" family or as a student who is "up for adoption" you're encouraged to sign-up asap.  There are cards and sign-up sheets at the building or you can sign-up online by clicking here and completing the form.

Involvement Minister Search

Grand Central's search for a new involvement minister has now entered the stage where three candidates will be visiting over three wekends (with the possibility of other candidates coming later).  Each candidate will have meetings with the shepherds, deacons, ministry leaders, community group leaders, and be available to talk with anyone after the Sunday morning Bible class time.  They will be teaching a combined adult class on Sunday morning and then leading a Community Group on Sunday evening.

The weekend of August 29-31 Ryan Richardson will be visiting with us.  Ryan is currently serving as an associate minister with the Holmes Road Church in Memphis, Tennessee.  While there he helped launch their small group ministry and helps coordinate various outreach efforts.  He has been a campus minister (Purdue) and served  as associate director of Operation French World.  He is currently working on a Doctor in Ministry.

The wekend of September 5-7 Kenneth Bolden will be visiting with us.  Kenneth serves as the Director of World Radio Broadcasting with the White's Ferry Road Church in West Monroe, Louisiana.  He served 26 years in Kenya and Tanzania as a missionary helping to plant numerous churches and training church leaders.  He has served as an adjunct professor/missionary in residence at David Lipscomb University.  He is nearing completion of his Doctor of Ministry.

The weekend of September 12-14 Stan Addis will be visiting with us.  Stan most recently worked with the Champaign (IL) Church as lead evangellist and pulpit minister.  He worked for nine years with the Chicago Church during the time when it grew from less than 100 to nearly 1000.  While there he helped coordinate and supervise evangistic small groups, led spiritual growth, discovering your spiritual gift, and welcome classes, as well as coordinating a large children's ministry.
