Our Pre-School is directed and taught by Mrs. Missy Maidens. Mrs. Maidens has a current teaching certification and degree in Elementary Education with a specialty in Special Education. She also has many pre-school teaching experiences including art to Preschool and Elementary students at the Parkersburg Arts Center; Directing/teaching at a center-based preschool for preschoolers with special needs; and also at a private Christian preschool in Southern West Virginia. Missy and her husband Rick are members of the Grand Central Church of Christ.
Our Pre-School’s teacher’s aide is Margie Morris. Mrs. Morris was previously employed by Foster-Wheeler. She has been an active Bible School teacher and has a great deal of experience in childcare. She has served as our teacher’s aide since 1986. She is married to Mike Morris and they are members of the 36th Street Church of Christ.
The purpose of the VCNS program is to:
provide a loving, stable environment for children in the community to establish themselves in away from home
model and teach Christian ideals - love of God, self, and others is stressed
daily develop and address all areas of your child's development (fine motor, gross motor, linguistic, cognitive, social, self-help, and spiritual)
use county and state guidelines to prepare children for kindergarten
guide children to an authentic understanding of God's Word through regular Bible studies, chapel services, and scripture journals (no specific church doctrine is taught)
daily encourage and develop your child's creativity and imagination in areas of art, drama, and music
provide a consistent management plan to maintain classroom discipline which lovingly encourages your child to learn and respect rules
encourage your child to view reading as an authentic, life-long activity and to promote the love of reading through literacy-based curriculum and developmentally appropriate reading homework activities for you and your child to complete occassionally at home
encourage your child to question the environment and to be included in developmentally appropriate science lessons, simple cooking experiences, and other experiments that teach the basics of the scientific method and how to chart data
encourage your child to recognize and learn about basic historical facts and prominent figures in history, along with developmentally appropriate multi-cultural activites and map reading skills
encourage your child to have an authentic understanding of assigning numbers to specific amounts of objects and basic pre-math skills
encourage your child to write independently and as directed by the teacher in daily journals and developmentally appropriate seat work
The overall purpose of this program is to partner with families to help your child reach his or her personal fullest potential in developmentally appropriate learning and spiritual activities. We value family cultures and input, and work to provide you with opportunities to be included in classroom experiences.
