Small Group FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. Who can become a part of community group?
Almost anyone who is interested. Group members are asked to agree to honor the confidentiality of what is share in the meetings, care for one another, and make attendance a priority in their lives.
2. How large is a community group?
Grand Central’s community groups are designed to include five to fifteen members (not including children). When a group approaches this piont they are asked to consider “giving birth” to a new group. This is involves a sacrifice but that is part of the process of "Helping Members Become Disciples" since it is about the desire to help others rather than seeking out own preferences.
3. Where do the groups meet?
Most community groups meet in member's homes. Two groups meet in the Youth House/Student Center. Others have met at parks, restaurants, the Mall, and other venues. For those who do not wish to be a part of the community group ministry a small assembly is held at the building on Sunday evenings at 6:00.
4. When do the groups meet?
Currently, Grand Central’s community groups are meeting on Sundays. A few meet in the early afternoon while most meet in the evening. Almost all groups meet every week.
5. What about the Sunday evening assembly?
Grand Central has a small number of members who prefer meeting for a Sunday evening assembly at the church building. Occasionally, when a community group is not meeting, those members who are in town will also attend. Guests are always welcomed (but we like to remind them there are usually 5 - 10 times more people meeting in community group as are gathering at the building).
6. Can a person who is not a follower of Christ come to a small group?
Yes. Small groups are an excellent setting for those who are wishing to explore the claims of Christ. It is easier in this setting to ask questions and discuss them than in a more formal gathering.
7. Do I have to know a lot about the Bible to attend a communityl group?
No. Groups include people from various backgrounds. Some may know a good deal about the Bible while others are just getting started. It is a chance to not only learn about the Bible but how it can be applied to life.
8. Am I going to have to do anything embarrassing if I attend a small group?
No. No one is asked to do anything about which they are uncomfortable. You are not expected to pray, read, sing or speak aloud unless you are comfortable doing so.
